Finance The Constraint, Not The Headline

Greensburg Owners Can Build Capital Around The Business’s Actual Bottleneck

A new HVAC contractor may need a van and tools. A restaurant may need equipment plus opening cash. A growing ecommerce seller may need inventory that turns every few months. An established local service company may simply need to bridge payroll and receivables. Those needs point to different financing structures.

Launch

Owner credit, income, experience and startup-capable lenders can matter before company history is deep.

Build Capacity

Equipment and vehicles can often support their own financing instead of consuming general-purpose capital.

Fund The Cycle

Lines of credit fit repeatable cash gaps when revenue and collections reliably restore liquidity.

An Indiana CDFI For Startups

Bankable Publishes Direct Loans Up To $350,000 For Indiana Small Businesses

Bankable is an Indiana nonprofit CDFI, SBA microlender and Community Advantage lender. It currently says Indiana for-profit startups and existing businesses can apply for fair and affordable business loans up to $350,000. Its mission is specifically oriented toward companies that may not be ready for conventional bank financing yet.

That makes Bankable a direct financing path, not simply a referral service. Loan amount, pricing, term, collateral and documentation depend on underwriting and the specific product.

Useful positioning: a business that cannot yet meet a bank’s conventional standards may still have a repayable CDFI path without resorting immediately to high-cost short-duration financing.

Indiana’s SSBCI Loan Participation

The Legend Fund Expands Capital Through Mission-Driven Lenders

Indiana’s Legend Fund is an SSBCI-backed loan participation program. The IEDC currently says participating lenders can make loans from $5,000 to $1 million for eligible small-business operating capital needs, including startup costs, working capital, franchise fees, equipment, inventory and certain business-place costs.

The state does not simply hand every applicant a Legend Fund loan. Approved lenders process and underwrite the financing, and IEDC can purchase a portion of eligible loans, freeing lender capital for additional borrowers.

A Different Indiana Credit Tool

CAP Uses A Reserve Fund To Support Loans A Lender Might Otherwise Decline

Indiana’s Capital Access Program is lender-side credit enhancement. The borrower, lender and IEDC contribute to a dedicated reserve structure that can encourage a participating lender to make a somewhat riskier eligible loan. IEDC says most Indiana businesses with 500 or fewer employees can potentially qualify and term loans or lines up to $5 million may be eligible.

The lender still decides whether to lend, the interest rate, term and other conditions. CAP is not a direct grant and cannot be treated as automatic approval.

Funding Before The Company Has A Track Record

Owner-Backed Capital Can Fill The Early Evidence Gap

A qualified Greensburg founder with strong personal credit and steady verifiable income can compare personal term startup financing when the need is a defined lump sum. Personal credit stacking can fit card-payable expenses that arrive over time, subject to issuer terms, inquiries, utilization and repayment planning.

These paths move underwriting toward the owner, but they also move risk toward the owner. Personal debt remains payable even if the business underperforms.

Keep Asset Debt Separate

Greensburg Equipment Financing Can Protect Working Capital

A roofing company buying a truck and trailer, a repair shop adding diagnostic equipment, a restaurant replacing refrigeration or a landscaping company purchasing machinery can compare Greensburg equipment loans. A defined asset gives the lender a clear purchase and potential collateral.

Liquidity For A Repeatable Cycle

A Greensburg Business Line Works Best When It Regularly Pays Down

A Greensburg business line of credit can fit inventory reorders, payroll before customer payment, seasonal purchasing or job materials before receivables clear. Revenue history and bank activity become increasingly important as the business matures.

Do not use a revolving line to disguise a structural loss. If ordinary sales and collections do not restore availability, longer-term financing or an operational fix may be more appropriate.

Broader Government-Backed Options

SBA Financing Can Cover Startups, Working Capital And Fixed Assets

SBA Path Often Fits Watch For
7(a) Eligible startup, acquisition, equipment, working-capital and expansion needs Detailed lender underwriting and guarantees
504 Qualifying owner-occupied property and major fixed assets Not ordinary operating capital
Microloan Smaller eligible launch and growth needs Intermediary sets terms and credit standards

See Greensburg SBA financing. Government backing supports the lender; it does not guarantee the borrower an approval.

Help Preparing The File

Indiana SBDC Advising Is No-Cost Technical Assistance, Not Loan Proceeds

Indiana SBDC serves businesses from startup through growth and specifically helps entrepreneurs navigate initial and growth financing. Advisers can help with planning, projections and lender readiness, but the SBDC itself is not the source of ordinary business-loan proceeds.

Its 2026 INTAP program illustrates another important distinction: selected businesses can receive up to $15,000 in qualified professional and technical vendor services for growth projects, but the program excludes asset purchases, equipment, construction, rent and debt resolution. The 2026 application deadline was February 18, so it should not be presented as a currently open cash grant.

Greensburg Financing In Practice

Four Businesses, Four Different Capital Structures

New HVAC Contractor

An experienced technician has outside income and strong credit but no company tax returns. Equipment or vehicle financing can handle the van and major tools; owner-backed or startup-capable CDFI financing can address insurance, software and early working capital.

Ecommerce Seller

An operating seller has profitable products but must order inventory before the holiday sales cycle. A line can fit if prior inventory turns and deposits demonstrate a credible paydown cycle.

Restaurant Expansion

An established restaurant needs refrigeration, seating and renovation capital. Equipment debt plus a term or SBA structure may better match the long-lived project than relying heavily on revolving credit.

Cleaning Company

A young cleaning company has recurring contracts but limited conventional bank history. Bankable or another Legend Fund lender may be worth comparing with owner-backed financing as deposits and business credit mature.

Documentation Depends On What Supports Repayment

Funding Basis Common Evidence Main Question
Owner-backed Personal credit, income verification, existing obligations Can the owner support the new payment?
Asset-backed Quote, invoice, asset details, down payment, borrower financials Does the asset and cash flow support the transaction?
Business cash flow Bank statements, tax returns, P&L, balance sheet, debt schedule Does operating cash flow cover debt service?
Startup/CDFI Owner profile, projections, budget, experience, contribution Is the startup plan credible and repayable?

Questions & Answers

Greensburg Business Financing Questions

Can A Greensburg Startup Apply With Bankable?

Yes. Bankable currently says it works with both startups and existing for-profit Indiana businesses and offers business loans up to $350,000.

Why Is Bankable Different From A Bank?

Bankable is a nonprofit CDFI and SBA lender focused on helping Indiana businesses that may not yet be ready for conventional bank financing. Approval and terms still depend on underwriting.

Is Indiana’s Legend Fund A Direct State Loan?

No. Approved mission-driven lenders process Legend Fund loans, while IEDC can purchase a portion of eligible loans through the SSBCI participation structure.

What Loan Sizes Does IEDC Publish?

IEDC currently says participating Legend Fund lenders can make eligible loans from $5,000 to $1 million for small-business operating capital needs.

How Is Indiana CAP Different From The Legend Fund?

CAP uses a lender reserve structure as credit enhancement, while the Legend Fund purchases a portion of eligible loans from participating mission lenders.

Who Sets CAP Loan Terms?

The participating lender decides whether to make the loan and sets the rate, term and conditions. IEDC support does not replace underwriting.

When Should Equipment Be Financed Separately?

Separate equipment financing is often useful when a vehicle, machine or durable asset represents a large part of the capital need.

What Does That Preserve?

It can preserve cash and unsecured borrowing capacity for payroll, inventory, insurance, marketing and other costs that do not have collateral behind them.

Can A Pre-Revenue Founder Use Personal Credit?

Potentially. Qualified owners can compare personal term loans and personal credit stacking before the business has years of revenue.

What Must The Owner Remember?

The debt remains personal. The payment plan should work even if the business takes longer than expected to generate cash.

Is INTAP A $15,000 Cash Grant For Equipment?

No. INTAP provides qualifying professional and technical vendor services and specifically excludes equipment purchases, construction, rent and debt resolution.

Is The 2026 Application Still Open?

No. Indiana SBDC lists February 18, 2026 as the 2026 application deadline, with selected project work occurring from July through December.

When Does A Business Line Fit Better Than A Term Loan?

A line generally fits a recurring short-duration cash gap, while a term loan better matches a defined need that will be repaid over years.

What Is The Paydown Test?

Normal sales and collections should regularly reduce the balance. If they do not, the business may be financing a permanent deficit rather than a temporary cycle.

Is StartCap An Indiana Lender?

No. StartCap is a financing consultant, not a lender.

How Does StartCap Help?

StartCap helps entrepreneurs compare and sequence realistic funding paths. Actual approval, amount, pricing and eligibility depend on the providers and borrower profile.

Graduate Into Better-Fit Capital

Greensburg Businesses Can Change Financing As Their Evidence Improves

A startup may begin with owner strength, Bankable, equipment financing or another startup-capable lender. As revenue becomes documented, the business can add term debt and revolving credit based increasingly on its own cash flow. Indiana’s Legend Fund and CAP can help participating lenders extend credit where conventional structures alone may be insufficient.

StartCap’s role: help entrepreneurs compare and sequence realistic funding options. StartCap does not lend or guarantee approval, amount, rate or program eligibility.
